Make a point of learning where you hold your tension. Could your back, neck or shoulders be looser? Or maybe you tense your jaw. Becoming aware of where you hold your stress allows you to learn to dissipate it, possibly through breathing exercises, going for a walk, looking at photos of loved ones or just making a big hot drink of tea to enjoy.
A study conducted by the University of Edinburgh claims that regular exercise for adults as they age, and the elderly, may be more beneficial in reducing brain shrinkage than mental or social activity. Obviously if you participate in exercise, socialising and mental stimulation, you are giving your body more of a chance of warding off some of the things that strike us as we age.
I love the saying “The ability to adapt is the ability to survive”. People that can adapt and have a positive outlook in life tend to live the longest. Life has a nasty habit of surprising you, so it’s how you deal with it that counts.
