Our brains use roughly 20 to 30% of the energy we consume. People who don’t eat enough healthy calories are more likely to have a lack of motivation, lower verbal fluency, reduced ability to solve problems and suffer from depression and sadness.
Our brain needs vitamins and minerals to function properly, along with sugar (glucose), protein and fats (lipids). Two types of fat are essential to brain function; Omega 3 Fatty Acids & Omega 6 Fatty Acids, and low levels of these fats can cause visual problems and other neurological issues. Try eating more oily fish (like salmon and mackerel) and more nuts (e.g. walnuts and almonds), as these provide good levels of these fatty acids.
